New Year's Day Hikes in Arizona State Parks

All walks are on Wednesday, Jan. 1; visit azstateparks.com for information on all First Day state park hikes and overnight camping. At Catalina State Park, 11570 N. Oracle Road, a hike of the 7-mile loop starts at the main trailhead at 8 a.m., and the 1-mile Romero Ruins Adventure walk begins at 10 a.m.; $7 per vehicle for 1 to 4 people, $3 for a cyclist. At Kartchner Caverns, a two-hour, 2.5-mile hike of Foothills Loop Trail, including discussion of the plant life, geology and hydrology of the area, begins at 9 a.m. at the Visitors Center; $6 per vehicle with up to 4 adults, $3 for an individual on a bike. At Patagonia Lake State Park, a 2.5-mile overlook hike offering a view of the lake and a 3-mile hike with some rock-scrambling to petroglyph sites start at 9 a.m. at the Visitor Center; $10 to $14 per vehicle with up to four people; $3 for individuals on bikes.
