This sequel actually manages to surpass its blockbuster predecessor in charisma and intrigue. The same cast and characters return for a romp (and a paycheck) to clear the tainted family name of Ben Gates, the quirky lead treasure hunter (Nicolas Cage). Apparently, his great-grandfather was involved with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Gates and his band of sidekicks follow one improbable clue after another, from Buckingham Palace to Mount Rushmore, through a plot of contrived conveniences. If you can accept the fact that director Jon Turteltaubs follow-up is farfetched and absurd, you can enjoy this as a truly entertaining guilty pleasure.
