Emma Thompson plays the 18th nanny to seven devilish kids who have chased off the previous 17 with baby-eating shams and teddy-bear decapitations. With her hairy warts, unibrow and single beaver tooth, Nanny McPhee instills manners and order with her magical wooden cane and hypnotic stare. Not only do the children learn their lessons, but Nanny McPhees hideous appearance inexplicably transforms into one of beauty, thus evoking even more wonder. In a compelling subplot to the already-entrancing main storyline, the rich and controlling aunt (Angela Lansbury) threatens to withdraw her monthly allowance to the childs widowed father (Colin Firth) unless he remarries within the month. Nanny McPhee is a wonder in this family-friendly frolic with a Dick Tracy-esque color scheme.
