My Winnipeg

Rated NR

Attention, Guy Maddin fans! This is the Guy Maddinest film of the year! If you enjoy this Canadian filmmaker’s surreal take on silent cinema, you’ll probably enjoy this biopic/documentary/fantasy film about the city he loves, and his life within it. Combining the real story of Winnipeg with a surreal story about a town ruled by naked prostitutes, Freemasons, “hairless boner boys” and the Page 3 girl from the Socialist daily, Maddin creates a beautiful, visually stunning, sometimes intensely imaginative, and frequently deadly boring cinematic presentation. Self-indulgent, narcissistic and intermittently funny, My Winnipeg is the perfect film for Guy Maddin fans and those looking to nap in an air-conditioned theater.
