Re: “Northwest Nightmare Nears End: One-Lane Traffic Open at Ina Over I-10

With Ina Road in the news again, it seems like a good time to remind newcomers that educated natives & Arizona Daily Star readers correctly pronounce it EEE'- nuh Road:…

Re: “The Latest College Admission Scandal? Yawn.

Most of what David wrote is unquestionably accurate.

My question is: Who cares about the unqualified kids?

William "Rick" Singer, the coaches, impostor test takers, & score changers should be fired & get prison time, but the over-eager parents & wrongly admitted kids are simply fools. Don't we all know dropouts who are impressive successes & college graduates - even of "elite" schools - who are unemployed failures? There are too many rich kids to count who wind up as criminals or societal leeches. Nobody needs to be a millionaire. From what we see, many of them are miserable &/or suicidal. A strong work ethic, good family, & sensible lifestyle probably matter far more than any imaginary desirable diploma.

Re: “McSally Reveals She Was Sexually Assaulted While Serving in the Military

Some of these comments show how completely ignorant some of Jim Nintzel's readers are. Martha McSally wasn't yet a Senator last year during the Kavanaugh vote. Commentors should at least do some research before making fools of themselves.

(McSally was a CD2 Representative last year. The Senate - not the House - votes on SCOTUS nominees. Last year's story was about abuse by a High School track coach ... different incident.)

Re: “40 Essential Arizona Books

Maybe because they cover the years my parents were growing up here, but two of my favorite local History books are Letters from Tucson, 1925-1927 & Letters from Tucson, 1933-1942 by Ethel Stiffler Carpenter. Very readable, with many mentions of local friends & acquaintances & interesting impressions of a newcomer enthusiastically dealing with living in Tucson before the days of cooling or air conditioning.

Re: “Ducey’s Budget Would Add $56 Million to Day Care Subsidies for Low-Income Families

Francis Saitta ... If you stop taxpayers from having kids, you won't have anybody left to support future moochers. Imagine a society where nobody pays taxes & everybody else wants something "for free".

Re: “Ducey’s Budget Would Add $56 Million to Day Care Subsidies for Low-Income Families

I'm sure I sound cold-hearted, but governments should do more to DISCOURAGE irresponsible people from having kids. Democrats have pandered to welfare voters (women, immigrants, minorities, inept parents, etc.) for years by telling them they're stupid victims who need the government - that is the more intelligent, hardworking, responsible taxpayers - to take care of them. This only serves to increase the numbers of those same welfare moochers, including future generations. It doesn't solve the problems.

Re: “Last Minute Giveaway! Arizona Baseball Opening Day

Your February 18th newsletter offered a chance to win free tickets to the February 15th or 17th games. Those chances aren't good enough.
