IMHO he was the best of the lot, easily outpacing Dylan in both his emotional attachment to his songs and the poetry of his lyrics, especially in his later "non political" works. And his voice had a unique poignancy that makes "covers" of his songs doomed to disappoint. I only saw him perform once, in 1973 in, of all places, a lecture classroom at the University of Washington, but consider myself lucky to have had that. From the moment I was first "radicalized" by his "All the News That's Fit to Sing" in 1964, my appreciation for his music's contribution to how I chose to live my life has never flagged.
