Laurie Melrood of the Mesquite Harvesters Working Group gives a hands-on workshop including harvesting mesquite pods, milling the flour and cooking and sampling mesquite pancakes with prickly pear syrup, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 29; $22.50 includes admission to tour the park. Wear comfortable clothing with long sleeves, and bring a basket for collecting pods, a hat, sunscreen and water. Take home a mesquite flour sample and written materials. Call for reservations.
