Like Julia Roberts and Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Lopez has the same loveable charm that fills the screen and warms your heart, and her performance in director Wayne Wangs romantic comedy is no exception. The singer, actress, and future Mrs. Ben Affleck stars as a single mom to her adorable 10-year-old prodigal son and works as a maid in a New York City four-star hotel. She bears the brunt of repeated patronizing insults, scrubs toilets and runs errands for a self-centered ego queen. Stuck in this demeaning working class job, the modern-day Cinderella dreams of moving up the professional ladder. Once she meets a soon-to-be senator with a winning smile who mistakes her for an upper class sophisticate, her managerial dreams are replaced by those of love. Although the plot is fairly predictable and is reminiscent of many movies before it, Lopezs entrancing onscreen presence, her believable chemistry with co-star Ralph Fiennes and the cast of delightful supporting characters makes this film the next Pretty Woman.
