    Tom,

Your article brought tears to my eyes. Your words about my daughter Valerie are so kind. A year after we lost Valerie and Sam, we also also lost Emily and Valerie's step-mother of 18 years to Leukemia. Three tragedies in a span of 3 years would be too much to take for many families. However, our family has stayed positive and the healing continues. We have all learned that life is fleeting and we need to reflect and enjoy every moment we have on this earth. A single moment in time can forever change your life. There is nothing worse than receiving an unexpected phone call with bad news or hearing a doctor tell you that your loved one has cancer. We have learned to enjoy the moment and be thankful for all of the good things that we still have in our lives.
Valerie was a champion in many ways. She had the personality of an angel and she was loved very much by everyone she came in contact with. The foundation that was set up in Valerie's memory is a beautiful way to remember Valerie and to help runners that exhibit the qualities of a champion on and off the field.
Thank you again for kind article.

    Sincerely, Lyle McGregor
