Just My Luck

Rated NR

Four-leaf clovers or broken mirrors? Those superstitious charms don’t really matter if you’re Lindsay Lohan’s perky public-relations executive or Chris Pine’s four-eyed music-producer wannabe. But what does matter? Apparently the almighty dollar, since this dim-witted film got the green light. The freckle-faced redhead plays Ashley, the lucky lady who unrealistically can do no wrong. She continuously scores big on any lottery ticket, channels Mother Nature for ideal weather and lands a rich man complete with a private jet. On the other side is Pine’s Jake, who tries to promote a rockin’ boy band while succumbing to puddles and sexual-assault accusations. However, after the two main characters’ lips lock at a masquerade ball, Ashley is the one digging contacts out of kitty litter while Jake signs McFly with New York’s big record label. The over-the-top slapstick comedy continues with dumbed-down antics and doltish characters. Director Donald Petrie might appease the gum-chewing tweeners on a girls’ night out at the movies, but no other theater-goers will have that luck.
