Jurassic Park

Rated PG-13 126 minutes 1993

These days, you only hear Jurassic Park talked about in two contexts: Remember when a movie making more than $300 million was noteworthy? And remember when Steven Spielberg made fun movies? What’s missing is an appreciation of the film itself, one of Spielberg’s best achievements. His last true summer blockbuster, Jurassic Park returns to mark its 20th anniversary, presented in 3-D (and IMAX, too, if you want to go that route), and it’s worth every penny and every minute. We’re now less than a month away from the summer movie season, and watching Jurassic Park again reminds you of how far off the mark modern blockbusters can be. This movie has undeniable intelligence, a tightly constructed story, just the right amount of effects for that story (are you listening, Michael Bay?) and some of the most memorable CGI and action scenes ever. It’s definitely worth revisiting.
