How to Deal
A barrage of after-school specials and
sitcom solutions is jammed into one
contrived teen flick/dramedy by director
Claire Kilner. The depressing life of
Mandy Moore’s hideously haired
character runs the gamut of romance and
ruin. Her father is a grunge-rock-star
wannabe with embarrassing dog-howling
fetishes; her mother is armed with lethal
weapons from ice picks to butcher knives
as she borders on a nervous breakdown;
and her sister is an uptight goddess of
stress who can never be pleased.
However, when a lanky greaser with a
leaf blower and an obsession for Star
Wars flashes his crooked-toothed grin,
everything conveniently falls into place.
