Homeless on the Santa Cruz River

A photo essay

Local writer/photographer David Burckhalter recently spent several days chatting with the homeless people who sleep near the Santa Cruz River. As the goings-on of downtown Tucson bustle above, these men and women live along the river, many of them under the Congress Street bridge.

Getting up early in the morning, Burckhalter set out to record personal sketches, find out how some of the homeless survive and get their views on the trash in the Santa Cruz. He took photographs along the way.

Here's what he found.
