Heroes and Revelry

Welcome to one of my favorite issues of the year.

This is our sixth annual Local Heroes issue. The goal is to shine some much-deserved light on some hard-working individuals who don't get a lot of attention as they go about the daily business of making Tucson a fine place to be. This year's list of honorees includes folks who help the homeless, the mentally ill, at-risk kids, new moms in need, etc. It's quite a bunch of amazing people; in the spirit of the season, check out their stories.

Another one of my favorite things also appears in this issue: Our annual New Year's Guide, which previews all of the wonderful dining, music and event options that the Old Pueblo has to offer as 2008 turns to 2009. It's a lot of work to put this guide together--we go beyond just including whatever information we receive here at Weekly World Central, and actually make a significant effort to go out and find events/concerts/dining specials. The end result is one hell of a resource for your New Year's reveling wants and desires. Enjoy.

With this issue, we bring 2008 to a close. On Jan. 1, we'll bring you our Year in Review issue, which will include something new that we're trying out: a 2008 Best of Tucson™ recap.

Here's to looking forward to a much more prosperous 2009. Economically and otherwise, 2008 has been tough for many of us--but hope is in the air. Check in with you next year...
