this is years later and the pay still sucks, the moral is low because of bad pay, lack of appreciation for officers from their superiors and staff shortage. it doesn't look like it will get any better anytime soon. the department of corrections is ALWAYS "threatened" with more PAYCUTS and/or removel of stipends or with lay offs because the state is broke. with all of this going on, how can anyone expect for people to flock to the department of corrections wanting to become an officer ? correctional officers in arizona are not appreciated from the governor on down to the very local administrators. az correctional officers are not appreciated by the public either because they keep the "poor" inmates inside the prisons but nobody would want them living in their neighborhood either. there will be no pay increase as indicated by Hunter. overtime has been stopped, the yearly increase of 2.5% has stopped and officers have trouble making it through the month with the little pay they receive.
