Unfortunately, this cliché-riddled yawn is the first of a scheduled trilogy. Lets hope the remaining two films learn from this rookies many mistakes. An underprivileged illegal immigrant (Kuno Becker), scraping by with his family in the slums of Los Angeles, has an impressive talent at soccerer, football. However, the stereotypical hard-nosed father strongly opposes this athletic whim and urges the dignified life of menial grunt work and poverty. Nonetheless, the young man carries on with his corner kicks until the scout from across the pond arrives on cue. Of course, the young man overcomes his obstacles and suits up with Great Britains Newcastle United, where he meets his fellow teammates, including David Beckham as himself and Alessandro Nivolo as the egotistical party boy. Danny Cannon directs some intense sports scenes, but there are just too many standard montages and developments out of Sports Movie 101 to get viewers psyched.
