Rated PG-13 113 minutes 2011

Footloose has the potential to bring a ton of fans back to the ’80s flick. So … how does it compare to the original? Well, the Kevin Bacon Footloose has aged in peoples’ memories much better than the movie ever really was, so the remake isn’t much of a drop-off. There is, however, not much dancing. Kenny Wormald, who looks a bit like Cry Baby-era Johnny Depp, certainly can dance, but acting is not his strength. What weight there is in a movie about a town that bans dancing is not held by Wormald’s performance. But teens should like it, and despite the appeal it might hold for nostalgic adults, the box-office receipts from those teens will be the real measuring stick.
