It’s difficult to say whether fans of the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion will go all in for Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo. It’s easy to say, however, that it’s a bad place to start for newbies. As you might have gathered, 3.0 is part of a series of films produced a decade after the influential TV series that spawned it. It’s a sci-fi story, one of the many Japanese mecha epics that thrive in anime. As for the X’s and O’s of the film, the animation isn’t terribly compelling, certainly not as jaw-dropping as, say, Ghost in the Shell, and it feels very dated. It also takes about 20 minutes of battle sequences to get to the story. Still, it was a massive hit last year in Japan, and if you are a fan already, there’s not much harm in taking one more step to completing the journey.
