Another biopic depicts another musician in another sudden rise to fame, during which he meanders into another fit of self-destruction, only to make another fall from grace in this film by Leon Ichaso. Marc Anthony plays the Puerto Rican pioneer of salsa, Hector Lavoe, who sings with energy and excitement. He marries a voluptuous woman (Jennifer Lopez) and achieves stardom. However, before you know it, the singer becomes a bankrupt heroin addict with AIDS. Unfortunately, the film focuses on this depressing downward spiral instead of the exuberant music that made Lavoe an international sensation.
