Sweet goodness

Hopefully you read Danyelle Khmara's Nov. 10 cover story, "When Everything You Care About is Gone," on the latest experience for Tucson refugees who find themselves in Tucson and those who welcome them with warmth and friendship.

Those same people in the story are now organizing a second day of selling Syrian desserts at Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2331 E. Adams St. The first one, held last week, was such a success that they decided a holiday season encore was in order. The desserts, made by local Syrian refugees, went fast last go round and I suspect they will again, so if you want to help support these families and even have a little Syrian coffee while you indulge, get there on Saturday, Dec. 17, when it starts at 9:30 a.m. (ends at 11:30 a.m.). For more info, you can go to Syrian Sweets Exchange, 2.0, the event's Facebook page.

If you haven't been able to be part of welcoming these refugees to our community as others have, this is certainly one way to welcome these families and enjoy a bit of sweet community goodness.
