Editor's Note

Awards are nice …

It's true, but in newspaper land we don't get too excited for many reasons. However, when we do have awards roll through, I can't wait to let you know, because it means I get a chance to thank the amazing people I work with.

The Arizona Newspaper Association recently announced those who've placed in its annual Betters Newspapers Contest. Those honored will be recognized at the organization's Fall convention in late September when we find out exactly how we placed in the various categories.

Our News Editor and Skinny scribe Jim Nintzel will receive four awards for his work this past year, including the Best News Story category and Best Sustained Coverage, as well as two for Best Column. Former Staff Writer María Inés Taracena will receive an award for Best Feature Story. In our same office, Brad Allis with the Marana News will receive an award for Best Sports Column. In our production office Louie Armendariz and our production manager Brandon Hays will be recognized for the good work they do behind the scenes.

We will let you know how everyone placed after the convention. For right now, some grateful thanks to everyone for their hard work.
