Goodbye, Slump …

This week, with the help of our UA interns, we get down to reality—the students are back. Some of us grumble at this return, recognizing that traffic always seems to get a bit worse.

However, those who own a small business downtown or near campus will tell you that summer is not a fun time and the heat has nothing to do with it. Business slows down, that is until the students return and then, of course, the migration of winter residents. Last week, it was obvious the summer slump could be over. It was Second Saturday, combined with the Return of the Mermaids event. There was a huge storm that shut down the mermaid parade, but that was really about it. No one scurried home in fear of monsoon and lightning. After 10 p.m., almost every bar and restaurant was filled. Let's get back to our summer interns, please. Great group this year: Chastity Eva Laskey, Nicholas Johnson and Jennifer Hijazi. A great, insightful crew that helped us put out some lovely issues this summer. We literally couldn't have done it without them. Big thanks to them and the UA School of Journalism. Good luck this fall, and may the journalism gawds bless your path. Hazah!
