Hey teachers, I've been thinking about you lately. It's that time of year when I try to figure out if I should give each of my son's teachers a holiday gift of thanks. In actuality, what I really do is figure out if I can afford what at times feels like an extravagant measure of thanks on my budget.
I explain away my guilt wondering what the etiquette is nowadays.
And along with the teachers, I think about the mail and newspaper carriers, and even the small group of neighbors I've slowly gotten to know since I moved back to Barrio Menlo Park. There are my co-workers, too—a hardworking bunch that I try to thank as often as possible. It's that season.
Those winter holidays when the drive home after work and school is a bit darker and those early mornings when the sun gets to sleep in when you don't. That time of year, even in our desert, when we need excuses to celebrate together, and yes, thank each other for another year.
However you celebrate this season this month, please, from myself and the staff at the Tucson Weekly, we wish you a bright season. And yes, we think of you, Tucson.
