What, no endorsement for the only candidate for County Attorney who supports the legalization of marijuana, a living minimum wage, and supports Mark Napier for Sheriff? (that'd be me) Maybe next time...?
The Bighorn Sheep Advisory Committee meeting notes indicate that the fires that were used as a basis for putting sheep back in Pusch Ridge did NOT change the habitat enough to make the area suitable habitat for reintroduced sheep - around 25% of the sheep habitat area burned. The project proceeded on the assumption that the USFS would use fire to restore more of the habitat and the meeting minutes make clear that this is not going to happen. The number of people using the area for recreation and living nearby has increased, dramatically. This is not a disputed fact. That begs the question - what makes the area suitable for sheep now?
I don't think it is a safe assumption that simply because CBD or AWC is involved that biodiversity or wilderness are being considered nor protected in this project.
Please note that Sierra Club and other groups oppose the project.
I'm often in the Santa Catalina backcountry. haven't seen you there so that of course means you never go there, right? (of course not)
There is nowhere, not one single place, in Arizona's National Forests outside of Wilderness Areas, where you can get more than about 1.5 miles from a road. Where is it people are having to haul their elk out for 6 miles? Please show me on a map. If you include Wilderness Areas, there is rarely a place that is more than 2-3 miles from a road.
Why do you believe that driving off road for fuel wood gathering is unrestricted, or that conservation supporters do not have concerns about that issue?

The roads most people have been using for camping (for hunting or other purposes) will remain open, literally millions of acres left for car camping. Many of these roads are infrequently used, but have value for quiet camping experiences. Why should anyone with any disability be forced to hike into the backcountry for a quiet camping experience? We need front country, roaded areas, that are protected from hunters driving off road to pick up game and that allow families to enjoy a less roaded, more traditional, camping experience.
The roads in the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge Wilderness are NOT created by drug smugglers. They ARE created by our own government in violation of several laws and agreements designed to protect our public lands. This article is unbelievably poor.
