It Would be a Zoo Without You, featuring a special ceremony, is followed by a free day at the zoo.
In past years, the community-wide celebration has attracted more than 2,000 volunteers representing more than 30 organizations.
At the main entrance area of the zoo, volunteers will enjoy light refreshments, receive special recognition for their services and enjoy a variety of entertainment including the University of Arizona Alumni Band.
Volunteers and their families are then invited to enjoy the zoo free of charge.
The event is from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday at Reid Park Zoo. For more information, call Mary Harvey at 326-9850.
Lessons learned. This year's University of Arizona Philharmonic concert features the Arizona premiere of an overture composed by Todd Gabriel.
Gabriel's a doctoral candidate, so it's a good bet he'll show off the best of what he's learned in all those years at UA.
The concert will be conducted by master's candidate Adam Boyles and doctoral candidate Linus Lerner. Established in August 2001, the 50-member Philharmonic is comprised of music students and other members of the University community.
The free concert begins at 7:30 Saturday night in Crowder Hall, Music Building, UA Campus--at the south end of the pedestrian underpass on Speedway Boulevard, east of Park Avenue. For more information, call 621-2998 or visit www.arts.arizona.edu/music.
Talking on the moon. Don't be late for storytelling by the light of the moon at Sabino Canyon--or you may wind up mumbling to yourself in the parking lot.
Gather in the Sabino Canyon parking lot before 7:30 p.m. and walk with others to the site of the Full Moon Storytelling program. Wear good walking shoes and bring a lawn chair, flashlight and drinking water.
The event is from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Sabino. For more information, call 749-4375 or 760-0096.
Two he's and a she. Tonight's songwriter series concert is three times more than you should ever expect from a free show.

The free Tucson Songwriter Showcase Concert Series concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hazy Dayz Lounge Cafe, 187 N. Park (at Ninth and Park). For more information, call 749-1880.
