Re: “If you drive US-93 from Wickenburg to Vegas you will die (probably)

When I first got to Tucson, a State Trooper showed me the safest way to Las Vegas (other than flying). Take 10 to I-8. Take I-8 to highway 85 to I-10 (this is the Phoenix Truck By-Pass route) head west on I-10 to either the Salome Road or to Vicksburg. take US95 from Vicksburg or AZ 74 from Salome to Parker. Cross the River at Parker. Then take Highway 95 to Needles and then continue to Boulder City. Minimal traffic and good roads. And you don't have the "People leaving Las Vegas" driving toward you for most of the trip. ("People leaving Las Vegas are always tired, drunk or hungover, or angry that their retirement funds stayed in Las Vegas. These are not happy people and are not concentrating on driving safely

Re: “How to Raise a Billion Dollars For Schools Without Raising Sales Taxes

How about the $300 Million that the State was Ordered to pay the Schools in Cave Creek Unified School District, et al. v. Doug Ducey, et al (cv-13-0039) It seems that the money was never paid to the schools and the following year, Governor Ducey introduced his Proposition to get more funding into the schools. But the $300Million was not included and seems to have been forgotten.

Re: “Prop. 204: Planting Preschools in Daycare Deserts

Yes, the proposition "will be a national game changer" but not in the way you describe. This is first and foremost a VOUCHER PROGRAM FOR EDUCATION. Once it is in effect, then tax dollars can then be used for Grades K-8, because "children deserve the best education possible". Then Middle Schools, then High School.
While the proposition may portray high-minded ideals, it is a "Gateway Drug" to the demolition of Public Education.
If the Citizens of Tucson want Universal Pre-K, then they need to have the local Public School Boards actually address the issue rather than trying to do an 'end run' with this Proposition.

Re: “Business Leaders Say, Raise Taxes to Fund Schools

What ever happened to the Money, that the courts said that the State Owed Education as a result of the lawsuit that Ducey lost while State Treasurer. I know that he felt that Prop 301increased funding, but it seems like the $3B from that lawsuit just evaporated and the State has never paid it. 301 did not have anything in it that would absolve the State of the obligation. What happened

Re: “Is the Strong Start Tucson Initiative a Good Idea?

Isn't this initiative a system where Vouchers are provided to send kids to Private School. Albeit that it is locally produced. But if the Public Tax Supported Voucher system starts with Preschool, how much more would it take for Vouchers to become the norm for All Students. Maybe the City should look at PreSchool supported by the existing Public School system?

Re: “Hell Yes!

Why is this not a Bond Election rather than a Sales Tax? As the article points out, the 2012 Bond Election Moneys were properly spent.
The problem that I have with the Sales Tax is that from the Beginning of the Year (January 1, 2017) All Sales Tax Collections are now processed through the Arizona Department of Revenue in Phoenix. And we know how much Phoenix and the State want to take the Tucson and Pima County funds to be used in other parts of the State. (Where are all of our HURF Funds?)
Even the Chamber says the City has been spending the Bond Funds properly.

This election should be a Bond Election rather than a Sales Tax Election.
