Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star

Rated R 96 minutes 2011

Earlier this year, Adam Sandler’s Just Go With It became his 12th film to earn $100 million or more. He made something like $40 million last year, because people, somehow, still find him funny. A byproduct of his obscene wealth—and perhaps this is somewhat commendable—is that he props up his generally unentertaining friends like Rob Schneider and David Spade for their own movies so they can make a few million bucks. The lottery-winner this time around is Nick Swardson, who stars in and co-wrote (with Sandler) the terribly unfunny Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star. It’s about a bucktoothed grocery bagger from Iowa who moves to California to become a porn star, thereby following in his parents’ footsteps. Naturally, he’s not well-endowed. Funny, right? It’s a dreadful exercise from beginning to end.
