Rated R 125 minutes 2011

All hail Kristen Wiig, the new queen of comedy. Wiig co-writes and stars as Annie, who recently saw her bakery fail and is stuck in a bad relationship. She’s enlisted by her best friend, Lillian (Maya Rudolph), to be her maid of honor—and the timing couldn’t be worse. Annie does a terrible job and is constantly upstaged by a rich bitch (Rose Byrne) contending for Lillian’s friendship. The movie has a big heart to go with big laughs, with some of the gags being wonderfully raunchy. Wiig is so good here (especially during a drunken moment on an airplane) that she deserves awards consideration at year’s end. Melissa McCarthy steals scenes as Megan, the tough-talking, puppy-stealing member of the bridal party. Annie’s relationship with a cop who pulls her over (Chris O’Dowd) is remarkably sweet. The film includes last screen appearance for the late, great Jill Clayburgh.
