Take the overused haunted-house theme, throw in any singer at random, add some fake blood and be wary of a jumbled Glitter meets The Haunting mess. Director Ernest R. Dickerson compiled these very elements, but produced a surprisingly impressive attention grabber using souped-up special effects of eerie intensity. A bunch of naïve young entrepreneurs turn a rat-infested building into a jumping hip-hop dance club where back in the day a Superfly crack dealer (Snoop Dogg) was murdered in a drug deal gone bad. Now, 20 years later, the slain drug lord rises from the dead to seek vengeance using blood baths, maggot showers and a rabid dog as weapons that even a palm-reading old girlfriend (Pam Grier) and a crooked cop can't stop. But maybe someone will figure out how to put the dead to rest in Bones 2.
