Despite their best efforts to eliminate the rumors that they were going to reunite, Fall Out Boy has in fact come back together for more musical endeavors.

The band announced on Monday morning that they were making a comeback with a new album titled “Save Rock and Roll.” The full album is set to be released on May 7 and is available for presale on their website now.

Along with the new album also comes a tour. FOB has also released tour dates beginning May 14 in Milwaukee. The tour does include a stop in Phoenix at Marquee Theatre on June 11, but sadly, no stop in Tucson. Tickets for the tour go on sale Feb. 8 and 9.

A single from their new album has been put out to reignite the flame in the love for FOB. The song, titled “My Songs Know What you Did in the Dark (Light Em Up),” is already number two on the iTunes top charts as of today. It is currently only topped by Macklemore’s song, “Thrift Shop.” (Which quite honestly has been overplayed about two months too long if you ask me.)

Those rumors going around about The Postal Service reuniting to perform at Coachella just got a little more realistic.

In a press release sent out by Sub Pop, which released the band's only album, Give Up, in 2003, the label announced that not only would Sub Pop be putting out the Give Up Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition in various formats on April 9, but that the band would be announcing tour dates soon. (You can bet they won't be returning to Solar Culture Gallery, where they performed their second-ever show on April 5, 2003.) No word yet on whether collaborator Jenny Lewis will be joining the band on the live dates.

Sub Pop is thrilled to share the news that The Postal Service, the much-beloved, long-distance collaboration between Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello, will reunite this spring to celebrate the 10th anniversary and deluxe edition reissue of their universally acclaimed release, Give Up. The Give Up Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition will include the original 10-track album along with 15 bonus tracks (including the 2 brand new songs "Turn Around" and "A Tattered Line of String," a previously unreleased live recording, and every other official recording the band has ever released—as well as cover versions of Postal Service classics by The Shins and Iron & Wine) and was mastered by Grammy nominated engineers Emily Lazar and Joe Laporte. Give Up Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition will be available as a 2xCD, 3xLP and digitally on April 8 in the UK and Europe and April 9 in North America via Sub Pop. A very limited “Loser” edition of the 3xLP will be pressed on colored vinyl.

Fun fact: Give Up is only the second album in the Sub Pop catalog that has sold over a million copies. The other is, of course, Nirvana's Bleach.

Tucson's The Resonars, recently the subject of a Weekly profile by Gene Armstrong, get some love from Spin in a brief piece posted on the no-longer-in-print mag's website today.

Burger Records, which will be releasing the band's new album Crummy Desert Sound on Jan. 29, is putting out a new cassette tape every day in the month of January, and Spin posted preview tracks from three of them: Detroit's The Go; Peach Kelli Pop, who will return to Tucson on March 12 to play a show with The Resonars at Tucson Live Music Space on the way out to SXSW; and The Resonars themselves.

In the days leading up to the Academy Awards on Feb. 27th, a watercooler conversation on nominees beyond “Best Picture” will likely glaze the eyes of all but a small minority of movie nerds. Then, only a minority of that minority can resist napping through the slow, middle section of a notoriously long-winded telecast to hear the winners of lesser categories like “Best Original Song.”

And coming from someone that’s usually on board for any shenanigans the Oscars pull - the fashion, the acrobats and Angelina Jolie’s leg - the category’s nominees are far from memorable this year and worthy of a bit of head-scratching. Here’s a breakdown of the nominees, which can be streamed in their entirety here courtesy of Fuse.

You might recall Amos Lee's 2011 performance at the Fox Theatre, which was taped for the PBS show Live from the Artists Den. Lee performed alongside his own band and members of Calexico and the Silver Thread Trio.

As we all know by now, Green Day was forced to postpone its scheduled 2012-2013 tour dates so frontman Billie Joe Armstrong could enter treatment for substance abuse. The timing couldn't have been worse: He checked himself in just two days before the release of ¡Uno!, the first of three albums released at the tail end of 2012. (The other two are, of course, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré!)

Those tour dates included a show at Tempe's Marquee Theatre scheduled for Monday, Dec. 10, which would have been quite a treat for the band's fans, considering the Marquee is a fraction of the size of the venues the band has been playing in for years.

Today, in a press release, Green Day announced the first round of make-up dates for the tour, which are all in the upper Midwest and Northeast, including Canada, and run from March 28 to April 12. While the press release also stated that additional dates on the West Coast will be announced in early 2013, unfortunately, the number of shows the band will be playing in the announced dates rivals the number of shows in that region that were canceled with no make-up dates scheduled. Also notable: All of the venues on the new schedule are arenas, or arena-sized.

Which means that if the band actually ends up performing a show in the Phoenix metro area, it likely will be at a much larger venue than the Marquee. (The band's last Phoenix performance was in August 2009, at the US Airways Center.)

For now, Green Day fans will have to sit back, cross their fingers, and wait for the next round of shows to be announced.

Hey, guys. Remember that item we posted right before Halloween featuring a few videos shot by Tucsonan Jason Willis? And remember that one video that was a brilliant parody of "classroom drug educational film(s)" featuring kitties strung out on catnip? You know, the one that was selected to screen at last month's American Film Institute's AFI Fest, in Los Angeles?

Well, we just got word via a Facebook post that the video (and, by extension, Willis) has just received its biggest honor yet: Catnip: Egress to Oblivion? has been selected to screen at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

Okay everyone — I'm not exactly sure how to process this news yet so I'm just going to post it.

Here goes:

My short film Catnip: Egress to Oblivion? has been named as an official selection at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

No, honestly. It's playing at the Sundance Film Festival. For real.

In January I'm going to travel to Utah, and go to the Sundance Film Festival where my film Catnip: Egress to Oblivion? will play.

Burger Records, the mostly-cassettes label that has released some of my favorite albums of the year, released a new compilation today in conjunction with its sister label, Wiener Records, that looks friggin' awesome.

The Wiener Dog Comp contains 71 unreleased tracks by 71 Burger-associated acts, spread over two cassettes. With songs by bands including Thee Oh Sees, Redd Kross, Jaill, King Tuff, The Eeries, Spanish Moss, The Blank Tapes, Pop Zeus and tons more, it almost warrants running out and buying a cassette deck just to listen to it.

Further incentive: The comp also contains songs by three Tucson bands — Lenguas Largas, The Resonars, and Freezing Hands.

Even more incentive: All of the proceeds from sales go toward an operation to remove a growth from the belly of Popcorn!, the adorable wiener dog featured in the video above. Any leftover proceeds will be donated to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. So it's like a triple-win!

If you want in on the action, get to it: Only 500 copies were pressed. Oh, and it's only 10 bucks per copy.

I'll admit that I'd never heard of How to Dress Well (aka Tom Krell) when his show tomorrow night at Solar Culture Gallery was announced. But after seeing lots of Facebook posts about how excited people were about the show — and about the fact that ...music video? was getting the privilege of opening for him — my curiosity was piqued.

I was sent a copy of HTDW's new album, Total Loss, checked it out, and it all made sense: HTDW and ...mv? share an aesthetic. Both trade in electro-beat R&B: ...music video? veered pretty close to the mainstream R&B of Justin Timberlake on their last album, 2011's fantastic If This TV Could Talk, while How to Dress Well immerses himself in spacey, icy-warm, ambient-influenced R&B. Both are variations of white dudes indulging their inner soul crooner, and both formulas work awfully well.

How to Dress Well's debut, 2010's Love Remains, scored great reviews and built a devoted cult following. But with the release of Total Loss, HTDW's second album, which scored an 8.4 rating on Pitchfork as well as a coveted "Best New Music" tag, the hype machine is really starting to spin. According to an email sent by How to Dress Well's publicist, "We got hit up by Beyonce’s camp because they want to sample a How To Dress Well song on her next album. He also submitted a demo to Big Boi for his new album but it didn’t make the deadline in time."

Bummer, but I have a feeling he'll land on his feet.

Meanwhile, ...music video?'s future has been in question since a cryptic post appeared on Facebook a month or two ago. The band was referred to in the past tense, which prompted others (including me) to ask some questions.
