Blended

What would you call Blended, exactly? The only Adam Sandler movie in half a decade that trends toward mediocrity? A welcome relief? The broken clock that’s right twice a day? Even by his lazy standards, Sandler hit a creative low point last summer with Grown Ups 2; there wasn’t even a plot. So Blended is a vast improvement over that, even though it’s still nobody’s idea of a great comedy. Sandler has always been better on screen with Drew Barrymore, and that holds true here. They play victims of the same horrible blind date who, through hijinks, wind up on an African getaway together with their kids. She’s divorced, he’s a widower, and while they’re both ready to move on, they know it’s not with each other. Or is it? Yeah, it’s a real complicated puzzle. But as Adam Sandler movies go, you could do a lot worse.

Blended is not showing in any theaters in the area.
