Tohono Chul Park

It's somewhat surreal to come strolling out of a tree-shaded grotto at Tohono Chul Park and see the bustling city streets beyond the fence line. Such is the magic at the old landmark, where groundskeepers have used species of plants from all over the Southwest, and from as far away as Africa, to create a miraculous oasis that stretches along Ina Road. Bask in the shade of a fig tree as ground squirrels scurry by with mouths full of fruit, or languish near the lazy stream dotted with boulders and water plants. The park is a living, breathing example of how a little shade and moisture can transform this arid desert landscape.
