In its inaugural season, Broadway in Tucson proved itself to be an overwhelming success with a wide variety of straight-from-Broadway (hence the name!) productions like
Thoroughly Modern Millie and Twyla Tharp's Billy Joel ballet,
Movin' Out. But the best of these productions--and the best of all of the year's theatrical productions in Tucson--according to you, our all-knowing readers, was
Chicago. Who needs Richard Gere, Queen Latifah and that chick from those idiot T-Mobile commercials on the big screen when you can have Wayne Brady, Bianca Marroquin and Brenda Braxton on the stage right in front of you at the Tucson Convention Center? And with shows such as
Little Women,
Evita and
The Lion King coming in (or already having been here) during season No. 2, Broadway in Tucson will again be in the running for BOT honors next year and the year after, we suspect.
