Best Sonoran Hot Dogs

El Guero Canelo

It's possible that El Guero Canelo could serve toadstools and gruel and still be the most popular Sonoran hot dog restaurant on the planet, having been promoted worldwide with the song "Guero Canelo," a runaway crowd-pleaser in the ever-more popular Calexico canon. But in a town where literally everyone can argue a favorite Sonoran dog pop-up or truck, we seem united in our love for this fortress of the genre. It could be the sweeping mid-century charm of the North Oracle Road property, with its relatively copious kitchen and air conditioning that must have been only a dream when the "fair-skin redhead" first opened on South 12th Avenue. But the first is still the place for the best sense of this Sonoran delight's super-fast and bacony flavorful provenance, with a whole island of opportunities to try to improve on it.
