It's great that the YMCA offers lots of different sports for little kids to sample, but the best thing about the "Y" is the emphasis on sportsmanship. It is an absolute delight to watch two basketball teams of tykes line up facing each other and match up to see who's supposed to be guarding whom. Of course, as soon as the game gets underway, all 10 kids are running all over the place, and about the only defense happens when one kid accidentally guards his/her teammate. Still, the sheer joy and innocent exuberance make YMCA youth sports a treasure for this and any community.
