The kitschy nature of Yoshimatsu can be a little off-putting at times in an am-I-laughing-with-or-at-the-signs-featuring-choppy-English sort of way, but there's no denying that the Campbell Avenue mainstay is a fun, comfortable place to eat delicious food with the comfort of knowing that both Japanese-food aficionados and people unwilling to step outside of the realm of California rolls and chicken teriyaki will equally enjoy themselves. The last few years have seen a handful of really great Asian restaurants of other types pop up locally (and we're thankful), but Yoshimatsu was one of the first places in town to celebrate the continent's cuisine authentically—and it hasn't lost a step.
