For the last few years, folks who like recreating the fantasy world of Harry Potter's Hogwarts have taken over Hotel Congress for a day, allowing kids of all ages who love the books and movies to pose for pictures with costumed characters and even imbibe in a little butter beer (kid friendly, mother approved). In the club part of the hotel, they've had Harry and the Potters perform and other Potter-esque activities. It's a dedicated group of fans who volunteer each year and seem to have as much fun as the families who show up with those little Harry wannabes with lightning on their foreheads and wands in their hands. It's fun, gets everyone downtown and introduces them to Hotel Congress and the best part—makes us grateful there are people who want to make our city fun and special with such occasions.
