Bellflower
What can $5,000 and a tinkerer’s imagination buy you? If you’re writer-director Evan Glodell, the answer is Bellflower, a cheap movie that doesn’t look cheap, primarily because Glodell invented his own camera to give his film a distinctive, intoxicating look. His script, on the other hand, could have used some investors. The story features a couple of slackers who make flamethrowers for an apocalypse they’re sure is about to happen—but then they get sidetracked by dames. The next steps trip up Glodell; it’s unclear what he’s really after or why he’s going about it in the way he is. Still, for a movie that a lot of people could put on their credit card, Bellflower accomplishes a lot. It’s just a bit of a mess.
