The long wait for a XIXA album is almost over, and you can catch the first auditory glimpses of their Bloodline on Friday, Feb. 26. While the band, formerly known as Chicha Dust, has been entertaining crowds locally and abroad for over three years now, their debut full-length album will offer up ten tracks to follow up their four-song EP release, Shift and Shadow, from 2015. Performing in the style of chicha—a psychedelic sub-genre of cumbia originating out of Peru in the late '60s, XIXA was well known for their high-energy live covers of classic songs from that era. However, the new album sees the band, which is fronted by Gabriel Sullivan and Brian Lopez, stepping into their own as songwriters.
You can check out XIXA's Bloodline at Wooden Tooth Records (415 N. Fourth Ave.) on Friday beginning at 6 p.m. There you can listen to the album and chat with the band, all free of charge. It is an all ages event. And, for more on XIXA and their new album, check out the Music section of TW on Thursday, March 10.
