B-Sides: Orkesta Mendoza

BAILA ESTA CUMBIA

Tucson's cumbia king is back from a big European tour and what better way to celebrate than a post-Christmas show at Club Congress (311 E. Congress St.). Before heading out on tour, though, Orkesta Mendoza (FKA Sergio Mendoza y la Orkesta) was recording at Saint Cecilia Studios in downtown Tucson, which hopefully means the upcoming concert on Monday, Dec. 28 will feature some new tunes. The full band will present their brand of big-band mambo with multi-instrumentalist Sergio Mendoza at the helm. Joined by a host of musicians, including vocalist Salvador Duran, the band often includes a full brass section, lap steel and more to create an explosive, full sound that's as fun to watch live as it is to move to, so bring those dancing shoes.

You can catch the show with doors at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for $15 at the door the day of the show or online in advance, along with more information, for $13 at www.hotelcongress.com. It is a 21 and over event.
