With a powerful voice that lends seamlessly to slow bluesy crooning as much as it does upbeat gospel and soul songs, singer Missy Andersen captivates audiences with a sound influenced by Billie and Ray as much as Ann Peebles. The San Diego transplant offers a strong vocal perspective, backed by her band, which includes her husband, Danish guitarist Heine Andersen. Those pipes have even earned her a nomination from this year's Blues Music Awards in the Female Soul Blues Artist category. Now, thanks to the Southern Arizona Blues Heritage Foundation and KXCI, you can see Andersen and her band live at the Boondocks Lounge (3306 N. First Ave.). The show kicks off at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 13. You can buy tickets at the venue in advance for $9 or for $12 at the door the day of the show.
