B-Sides: Miss Lana Rebel and Kevin Michael Mayfield

REBEL RELEASE

Tucson's very own folk duo, Miss Lana Rebel & Kevin Michael Mayfield, is getting ready to put out a new album, and you can help them celebrate by heading to Club Congress (311 E. Congress St.) on Friday, Dec. 11. You might recognize the harmonizin' pair from their La Cocina residency or from their record store, Old Paint Records (201 N. Court Ave.), inside the restaurant's multi-use courtyard. Now you can take a little bit of their classic country vibes home with you by snatching up a copy of the new album Midtown Island Sessions. Recorded at Tucson's Midtown Island Studios (get it?) with Matt Rendon (The Resonars, Butterscotch Cathedral), the album showcases Rebel's talents as a lyricist and Mayfield's multi-instrumental capabilities—if you haven't seen him make a saw sing, you're really missing out. The album, released by For Practically Everyone (FPE) Records, covers themes of sullen heartache and despair with a good dose of Tucson twang.

Pick up a copy of the Midtown Island Sessions on Friday starting at 8 p.m. with a live performance from Miss Lana Rebel & Kevin Michael Mayfield in the flesh. The free concert will kick off with performances from The Wanda Junes and The Hank Topless Band. It is a 21 and over event.
