DISAPPEAR INTO THE OCEAN

Tucson's experimental music scene is going strong and at the vanguard is Eric Schlappi. Disregarding hooks, bridges, choruses and all those other formulaic ingredients that go into creating most music, Schlappi moves into the fine art world with rich, textural and kind of bizarre pieces that are all about creating soundscapes. On his new release, Poseidonis, Schlappi explores a short story by sci-fi and fantasy author Clark Ashton Smith. Essentially reexamining the story of Atlantis, Schlappi's piece is influenced by Victorian-era mysticism and more, offering droning, transcendent and epic compositions.

On Saturday, Feb. 20, Schlappi will be premiering Poseidonis live, accompanied by visuals, at Exploded View Gallery and Microcinema (197 E. Toole Ave., #2) for a unique album release experience. Fellow experimental noise musicians Skincage, Igloo Martian, sunfucked and Lunar Halo (with members of The Myrrors) will add their distinct talents to the showcase, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for $6.
