WE'RE DOOMED

"Suffocation, A Burial," "Judgement [sic], In Fire," "Suffocation, A Drowning," "Judgement [still sic], In Air:" these are the names of the four songs Seattle's Bell Witch put out in April 2015 to follow up their 2012 release of Longing. If there's any doubt left after those titles, Bell Witch is indeed a very doomy, sludgey metal band, and their most recent release, Four Phantoms, showcases it in dissonant tones, ghostly chanting, lackadaisical tempos and explosive guttural growls with an overarching theme of, you guessed it, dying painfully. The whole affair, which alludes to the four violent ends via the four elements—earth, fire, water and air—is enough to make one feel genuinely uneasy, which is a mission accomplished for Bell Witch, I think.

You can catch Bell Witch live on Friday, Dec. 11 at The Flycatcher (340 E. Sixth St.). The show starts at 9 p.m. with Wrekmeister Harmonies and Tucson's Methra. Tickets ($10) can be found online, along with more information, at www.theflycatchertucson.com.
