SONIC EXPERIMENT

Some experiments take seconds to execute, others last decades. The latter is true for Terry Riley's experimental composition known simply as "In C." Since first recorded nearly 50 years ago, Riley's open-ended piece of music has beckoned music makers in many genres all over the world to take a crack at the short 53 musical phrases the piece offers, tweaking it and allowing it to evolve over time. Here in Tucson, "In C" is getting the "mystic beat" treatment when Lasso will offer his translation of the composition using samplers, sequencers, synthesizers and controllers.

MOCA Tucson (265 S. Church Ave.) plays host to this unique foray into experimental beat making, filling the acoustically rich Great Hall with all the sounds Lasso intends to serve up. Catch this blend of fine art and music live on Tuesday, April 5 beginning at 7 p.m. The event is free to attend for MOCA members and $5 for everyone else.
