Answering the Call

A social justice workshop aimed at white people takes place Saturday, May 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the downstairs meeting room of the Joel D. Valdez Main Library, 101 N. Stone Ave. Tucson Solidarity group hopes to provide "white folks" with the tools they need to speak out against moments of racial injustice as they occur. The hope is that focusing on this demographic will help connect to other white people and create a conversation to show solidarity with people of color. Of course, the workshop accepts not only white people, but anyone from any background. Attendees can expect to hear about why uniting together to end white supremacy and instead create a supportive culture benefits all. The event is free and lunch is provided with proper RSVP to tucsonsolidaritygroup@gmail.com, but space is limited. Donations to offset the cost of lunch and to provide funding for future events are accepted. More information can be found on the event's Facebook page.
