Academy Award Nominated Animated Short Films

It seems likely—or at least logical to think—that Pixar will win the animated-shorts category at the Oscars. It has no chance to win in the money category, because Cars 2 sucks and didn’t get nominated for Best Animated Feature. So here’s an opportunity for balance in the Disneyverse: La Luna, the short that accompanied Cars 2 in theaters, is the spotlight nominee in this category. While La Luna is very good, and the resources at its filmmakers’ disposal are many, the short that will blow you away is The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. It almost resembles a Pixar audition tape, ironically enough, but its imagination is just a step above the others. Wild Life is interesting; Dimanche is OK; and A Morning Stroll (zombies, anyone?) is just too bizarre.

Academy Award Nominated Animated Short Films is not showing in any theaters in the area.
