A Fierce Green Fire: The Battle for a Living Planet

Rated NR 101 minutes 2013

This engaging and inspiring documentary takes a look back at the birth of the environmental movement, whose leaders, organizers and supporters have offered solutions and taken action to ensure Spaceship Earth doesn’t crash and burn. Through copious amounts of stock footage, newsreels, first-person testimonials and voice-over narration from a variety of famous voices, the stories of the Sierra Club, Greenpeace and ordinary citizens who fought against government and big-business obstacles are vividly brought to life. Particularly chilling is the firsthand, Super 8 footage of Greenpeace members stationed between a harpoon-armed whaling vessel and a doomed sperm whale in Russian waters; and the scary story of New York state’s Love Canal, the toxic dump in suburbia that caused so many illnesses and birth defects that a group of pissed-off housewives had to hold two EPA officials hostage in order to get relocated. See it at once.
