    I think people put up with it because the search for and the insistence on authenticity becomes a bore. There's a bunch of bands (Sleaford Mods for one example) offering the idea that they're the genuine article, what-you-see-is-what-you-get, all that. They slag off Paul Weller (for other example) for no longer being what-you-see-is-what-you-get. It's a weird kind of stasis and gets dull after about the sixth Youtube hit.
    So maybe you-might-not-even-get-to-see-it slippery elusiveness becomes the only game in town. Even if they're no shows in your town. (That last bit just came to me.)
