It wasn't Boogart and Miller who "torpedoed" the bond package, it was Chuck Huckelberry's devious attempts to manipulate it to his own ends, like hiding millions for an unnecessary "Sonoran Corridor" in the road repair package -- a convoluted route to benefit Bronson contributor Don Diamond and make the unnecessary and dkisastrous Avra Valley Interstate 11 seem logical. Voters are not stupid, and saw through it.

It's a shame when hate blinds one to doing the simple job of reporting the news. Executive Bully Jim Nintzel's longest paragraph has nothing to do with the subject of his column -- the 2020 Board of Supervisor elections. No, it' spent on trashing Ally Miller yet again, to the point of missing completely a strong candidate for her seat, Steve Spain. I have worked with Spain despite our differing politics. If I were in District 1 I would vote for him in a heartbeat.
But, alas, I live in District 3 where our representative has been on the BOS way too long and is too controlled by the county administrator to represent the people who actually live in the district. An example of how things are done: Tula Road, a mile-long shortcut to Picture Rocks Road for those in the southern portion of Picture Rocks, gets big potholes after every rain. For 16 years that I have witnessed, the county "repairs" the holes -- which last until the next rain. The road could have been repaved many times over for the cost of those ongoing repairs. And while the county refuses responsibility for most of the dirt roads, they have no problem using them -- and tearing them up -- as staging areas for repair the roads they do fix.
For many years local residents have gathered to clean up litter from several long stretches of local roadways. Sometimes the county actually picks up the trash...eventually...and sometimes not. Then there's I-11....
I actively supported Supervisor Bronson in the past, including when she was challenged by another Dimocrat. Joe Boogart was right to oppose that bond measure -- and We, the People, agreed. Too much sneaky stuff hidden in it by the county administrator, with Bronson's approval. She's Gotta Go!
Wow -- 48 "dislikes" on my comment. Kind of highlights the difference between a free press and a kept press. While distracted by the bullying of Supervisor Miller by the Weakly's editor, no one is informed that the Pima County Board of Supervisors on December 3 -- a week ago -- approved the County Administrator's plan for state legislation -- a plan that certainly impacts Weakly readers.
The BOS, with Miller and Christie voting No, wants state legislation to increase our taxes (a 15 cent gas tax increase), penalize "green" drivers (an equivalent "road tax" for electric vehicle drivers), a sales tax increase to fund pensions for elected officials and public safety participants while at the same time reducing public safety retirement benefits by eliminating overtime from benefit calculations; reduce transparency by eliminating newspaper and mail notices required for government operations like bidding on contracts or selling surplus land; reducing services by eliminating county contributions to state juvenile corrections and long-term care programs.
Not to mention that Pima Coiunty's lobbyist, Michael Racy, is being paid $280,000 taxpayer dollars a year to get the plan implemented in Phoenix.
I read about it in the Arizona Daily Independent, another target of the editor's bullying. Not a word in the Weakly or any of the other Tucson Local Media papers managed by Chuck Huckelberry, I mean Jim Nintzel. And for the record: I vote Independent and am currently registered Democrat to vote for Elizabeth Warren in the primary. I've met Supervisor Miller twice, in brief conversations during BOS breaks. I write occasionally for the Independent because I value a free press. They've never censored me or refused an article, as was the case during the dozen years I wrote for Desert Times, and sometimes for the Weekly, prior to TLM's takeover. A recent Guest Commentary for the Weakly was refused by the editor. That's the difference between a free press and a kept press.

And to join the I-11 gang says a lot -- that he/she doesn't give a flying fart about wildlife, about poor rural communities, about drug smuggling, about more development equals less water, or about a corrupt crony politics in Pima County. And those who click on the Like button -- I guess you're camp followers too. Weakly readers used to be independent thinkers, just like the Weakly used to be a free press.
True to form, the Weakly's editor publicly gloats when he perceives that the target of his years of bullying has given up. Just like the bully in the White House. That's how bullies are -- mean-spirited and nasty to the end. I do not share Ms. Miller's politics, and I don't live in her district, but I respect that she has been the lone voice challenging the deep-seated corruption in Pima County, saying a loud NO when the rest of the Board of Supervisors is kissing the County Administrator's butt. -- an appointed semi-dictator who is ruining good county departments by staffing them with incompetent cronies; who is -- like the editor -- vindictive to those whose challenge him; one of the highest-paid county administrators in the nation who has tried to double-tax us time and again; a hireling who has championed an Avra Valley Interstate 11 for years in violation of the elected BOS's own policies and gotten away with it, no matter the threats to communities and wildlife. No, cronies come first: the Cardon Family. Diamond Ventures. There was a time when the Weakly and other Tucson Local Media papers did their job and exposed the shenanigans instead of being sycophants. That was before the Weakly went "green," when it was still a real newspaper. Thank goodness the Independent and the Sentinel still provide some semblance of a free press.
Another cheap shot at Supervisor Miller from the Weakly's Bully-Boy. And never mentioned the World View balloon explosion that cost -- how many dollars? Selective reporting -- is that what people mean by "fake news?"

US Center for Disease Control: "excessive exposure to mold-contaminated materials can cause adverse health effects in susceptible persons regardless of the type of mold or the extent of contamination."
When mold cannot be prevented, the CDC recommends clean-up protocol including first taking emergency action to stop water intrusion. Second, they recommend determining the extent of water damage and mold contamination. And third, they recommend planning remediation activities such as establishing containment and protection for workers and occupants; eliminating water or moisture sources if possible; decontaminating or removing damaged materials and drying any wet materials; evaluating whether the space has been successfully remediated; and reassembling the space to control sources of moisture.
